The Appalachian Mountains surround the eastern state of West Virginia. There are many beautiful places to go hiking on the east coast and a lot of adventures to enjoy. The state has mountains, forested wilderness areas, fast-running rivers, rock climbing, fishing, and whitewater rafting, making it a popular spot for hiking, camping, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting. There are also historical sites and other unique attractions in West Virginia that attract visitors. Representatives from 39 counties who opposed Virginia’s vote to secede held a meeting when it voted to secede in 1861. Rather than joining the union, they formed a separate state. West Virginia was recognized as a state by Abraham Lincoln in 1863. A famous West Virginia hotel built in 1778, the Greenbriar Hotel has hosted practically every president. The hotel also served for 30 years as a bunker where Congress could meet during a nuclear attack.
