The state of Virginia is located in the southeast and is one of the original 13 colonies. Many rivers and lakes run between the Chesapeake Bay and the Appalachian Mountains. Furthermore, it’s one of the most historically significant states of the country: it hosts some presidential monuments, Civil War battlefields, and the oldest British settlement in North America. Appomattox Courthouse in Appomattox, Virginia, serves as a memorial to both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. The Civil War was fought more than half of the time in Virginia.
