Mount Rushmore is the most popular tourist attraction in South Dakota, where George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt are sculpted into its surface. Gutzon Borglum began drilling in 1927 into Mount Rushmore, which rises 6,200 feet above the ground. A million dollars and fourteen years were needed to complete the project.
