New England’s classic state, with its rocky coast, fishing harbors, lighthouses, and tall pines, is Maine. Aside from lakes and forests, the region is home to rainbow trout and moose. Approximately 76,000 moose roam the state, making it the state with the highest moose population in the country. Winters in Maine can be icy, and it is one of the ten coldest states in the nation. When temperatures reached -50 degrees Fahrenheit in Big Black River in January 2009, it was the coldest day ever in the state.
