The province of Alberta is located in western Canada and is one of 13 Canadian provinces and territories. To the west is Vancouver Island, and to the east are the provinces of British Columbia. Saskatchewan to the north are the Northwest Territories, and last but not least is Montana, in the United States. The capital of Alberta is Edmonton, the second-most populous city in the province. Culture, government, and education are all essential aspects of the city. The nickname “Canada’s Festival City” reflects that it hosts some festivals throughout the year. Located in North America’s Rocky Mountains, Alberta is a fertile region. Its southern region is primarily covered by low-lying plains that have almost no trees. Many of the province’s lakes and rivers can be used for swimming, fishing, and other water sports. There are 76 provincial parks and five national parks in Alberta.
